New Ottoman

So I totally fibbed yesterday:o) I said that the creative bug wasn't there. I said that I might pick something up next week....well next week turned into today:o)
This is what I did today.
In the words of my dear grandmother, "itn't that purdy."
Being from the South, most of us say itn't instead of isn't..sad but true:o)
Anyway, this is what the ottoman looked like before:
Yep, that's a coffee table. One that has seen better days. My neighbor is an avid yard saler as well, and I told her that I was on the hunt for a round coffee table to turn into an ottoman. She definitely came through for me. She found this little beaut for $10.
I couldn't find anywhere in town that had foam thick enough and wide enough to cover the entire coffee table, so I bought 4 foam cushions from Hobby Lobby. I used spray adhesive to attach the cushions to one another and then laid the coffee table on top of the foam and traced around the edge of the table. Then the hubs and I used a reciprocating saw and cut the foam.
I didn't take any pictures of the step by step process..sorry. I was so excited about getting a project done, that I just flew through it without a second thought.
The fabric is painter's canvas from Lowes. I did use some piping around the edge just to give it a more finished look.
This ottoman has 5,003 staples in it....well I am not exactly sure how many staples to be exact, but there are several:o) I laid the fabric across the top of the foam and stapled it to the skirt of the coffee table(the wooden skirt that is). I then added the piping..stapling it to the underside of the top of the table. Then I added the ruffled skirt, stapling it to the underside of the top of the table as well.
This project took 1 hour to complete, with very little sewing and a whole lot of stapling.
How successful do you think I will be keeping the kids and the hubs off of it??? My thoughts EXACTLY!
At least we can all look back at these pictures and see what she looked like before being introduced to the rest of the family:o)
I hope you all have a great Wednesday!

Yard Sale Love

Last weekend we had several neighborhood yard sales just down the street from us, so you can imagine how pumped I was. I came back with so many goodies! I had to call it quits b/c I ran out of room in my van:o)
Here are some of the big items that I brought home:

A Sofa Table..
I was using the drawers to hold down some plastic in plcae while spray painting another project

 A small bookshelf...it needs some major love:o)

An oak rocker. This chair has perfectly worn arms on it. I was so happy to find it and at such a good price. This guy will be getting a new seat. I have already ripped out the stuffing...which was original...blech!

A sweet little pillow form. I have this for sale in my Etsy shop. If you are interested in it, just click on the link in the upper right hand corner on this page.

And a small strainer...also for sale in my Etsy shop.

These are just a few of the things that I rounded up for the day. I found so many more treasures. The kids were super pumped about the air hockey table that I got for them for $10. They have had so much fun with it.
I am definitely going to have a busy weekend finishing up all of my projects that I purchased. I have a few other pieces to share, but I am saving that for a special post:o)
Oh, and for all of you out there who were friends with me on Facebook....I deactivated my account. Yep, I took the plunge and I am not sure how liberated I feel:o) I am starting to purge things from my life that are taking attention away from my family. Getting rid of Facebook seemed like a good place to start. So if any of you guys need to get in touch with me, you will either have to email me or contact me through this blog.
Have a fantastic day!

Old Bench Beautified

I am so pleased about this bench. You have no idea how happy I am with the results. The hubs really came thru on this project. I told you that I found this bench during my fabulous yard sale weekend. You can see the before pic in that posting. I believe that I deleted the picture from my computer...oops:o) Anyway, when I made this purchase, I knew the exact location that it would reside...at my breakfast table.
Isn't she a beaut? Before, it was covered in a not so attractive chippy paint and had been used as a place to put on shoes on a back porch. I am a big fan of chippy paint IF it's the right color, and in this case, it wasn't. So the hubs pulled it apart, stripped and sanded for hours on this puppy. He was near the point of hating this piece. He actually put it back together, and thought it looked like junk, so he pulled it apart again, finagled a little bit and put it back together again. He is so proud of it...now:o)
You can actually see the beautiful wood grain now. It can "comfortably" seat two adults...who are medium sized that is;o)
Now my two sweet little precious ones are definitely not allowed on this bench. There are cracks that can easily collect food droppings. We'll see how long this lasts;o)
Are you digging the flowers?

Hubs picked those up from Costco the other day. No, he didn't get them on his own accord, but it is amazing what fresh flowers motivates you to do. I have been cleaning like a mad woman. Those flowers have really made me feel happy. I walk in and see them, and I am like "AWWWW they're so pretty, I think I'll go scrub a toilet." Weird, I know. There was enough in the bouquet to make two vases.
So these are residing on my coffee table. The kids love seeing them too:o)
E made his mark on the table before I was able to get a shot of it:o) Oh well...
I hope that you all have a wonderful Tuesday. I will be spending a good portion of my morning at the chiropractor, and then off to the pool. E has swim lessons, and he is doing so good:o)

Repurposed Old Frame

Remember this picture from the last post? Not a bad pic. Would go nice in a kitchen. I got it for the frame. I care nothing about a painting of fruit and wine. This picture was $3. I couldn't decide if I wanted to paint the frame or leave it as it was, but finally just decided to leave it alone. There isn't a thing wrong with it. So I popped the picture out and flipped it over made a pretty on it:o)
My materials included: scrapbook paper (on hand), trims for a wedding gown(on hand), hot glue gun, regular glue stick, and free clip art here at The Graphics Fairy. Glued everything in place and popped it back in the frame. Here's the back...I moved the hanger over as well so that I could hang it horizontally:
If I ever want the fruit pic again, I can just flip it back over. Easy peasy.
Angle one..
Angle two
Here are some other new homes for my recently found treasures:
Here is the bakers rack that I told you about yesterday. It's a short one. I put it upstairs in the bonus room to house all the kids arts and crafts stuff as well as stuffed animals and their musical instruments. 5 bucks:o)
And as promised, here is a picture of the freebie from a friend. Can't wait to re-do it. S.R. is getting this sweet thing. Can you feel it? Do you see the potential?:o)
It has to go in S.R.'s room. It has an S on it:o)
If you're wondering about the coffee table, I have started on it. I just ran out of steam with these snotty kids:o) Hopefully I will finish it soon...along with the other gazillion projects I have brought home:o) Happy Tuesday!

What A Weekend!

That word says it all. This weekend wasn't anything that I would have planned:o) I told you guys that the kids had some allergy issues. Well that was just the beginning of all the unplanned events:o) My Saturday morning started at 5:45 a.m. I was pumped and ready for some treasure hunting. I was exhausted, but I wasn't about to miss out on some super neighborhood sales. I got my shower, got dressed and got out the door by 6:25. I got my cash b/c I didn't have a chance to get any Friday night, and hit the first sale of the morning. It was a dud. She was overpriced, so I made my way back to the van. I tried opening the door and it wouldn't open....the van was still running....not good. I always leave the keys in the van and keep it running for a quick get away...By this time it's 6:45 a.m. I called the hubs and ask him to call a neighbor to bring me the keys b/c I had BOTH car seats in the van with me:o/. Well, he couldn't get in touch with anyone, so he had to bring the keys to me...Yes, HE brought them to me. When he arrived, my kids were covered in dried snot, no shoes, and E had no pants on:o) I felt sorry for the hubs. Before it was all said and done, I was driving the CAR with both kids in the back seat, hitting the sales hard. You would have thought my last name was Clampet after the morning was done:o) Here are some of my treasures:
 Mirror for my half bath:$5
Pics for S.R. room, $4 for the pair. The Metal wall hanging in the background $3.
Chuckle sign(for my sis):$2, Mirror hanging:$3, Platter set:$3, Topiaries $2 for the pair
Smocked jumpers for S.R. $7 each. I also got her some sweet dresses, one of which was a Strasburg for $4!
Crazy looking cat: $1
My First Leap Pad with 4 extra books:$5. This is going to be S.R.'s for Christmas.
Fruit Pic. $3
Set of speakers: FREE! Going to turn these into end tables.
I loved the details. They are made out of some really good wood. Just have to finish gutting them. Off course they won't be this color when I finish with them:o)
This was the tag on top of the speakers:o)
I got a baker's rack for $5 as well, I just didn't get a pic of it. I'll post pics of my treasures in their new homes tomorrow.
A lady at church brought me a chair that is GAW-JUS! I think she found on the side of the road. It needs some TLC, and I am more than happy to oblige! Thanks SYD! I'll post pics of it tomorrow.
So even though the morning started out rough, I ended up having a successful treasure hunt with snotty babies in tow:o)

Fabulous Yard Sale Weekend

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. We had some BEAUTIMOUS weather. Perfect for some yard sales. This time of year is so exciting for me b/c everyone starts to remove years of accumulated junk...or what they perceive as junk...my mother refers to them as "treasures." But she doesn't pronounce it that way. It's more like tre-shuuures. Just a little country twang in it:o) Anyway, I live very close to a neighborhood that is VERY affluent. It's where the money makers go to live. They host two major neighborhood yard sale weekends every year. One in the spring and one in the fall. I was so pumped Friday night, that I didn't hardly sleep a wink. My neighbor and I were out the door just before 6:30 to see what treasures were waiting on us. Now she isn't a big shopper, but I buy everything in sight. I haggle till my eye balls are ready to pop out, and try to come home with great deals. My major big purchase was this bench.
It was $50, but I was able to talk the lady down to $40. They used this bench on their back porch to take their shoes off, but I am going to use it on the back side of my breakfast table. Hubs was proud of this purchase. He normally rolls his eyes at everything I bring home b/c he sees another project that will require his attention to detail. Something I don't lack, but don't have as much of:o) He wants to sand it down and stain it the same color as the top of the table. I love that idea:o)
This set of cabinets was $10 for all of them. Solid Cherry...ahthankuverymuch!This cabinet used to be over their kitchen sink. I think we are going to put some legs on this and make it a bench.
There are also 3 "spice" cabinets...not sure what we will do with them??
Here are some dresses I got for S.R. They are so cute. Two of them are smocked and the other two have some sweet embroidery on them. This top one is a Strasburg. I paid $8 for it:o)
The tall lamp I paid $3 for(will go in the living room), and the small one I paid $2 for(S.R.'s room). The shelf is from P.B. It was $8. I am using it as a side table b/c it is so large. Pics to follow soon. The large pic frame was $4.
Mag. rack $2, the ugly pic 25 cents. The flowers were a quarter too.
These little wall shelves were $1.50 ea. Not sure where those are going yet. And the thing with the little cupcake on it is an apron and chef's hat. Too cute to pass up. It still has the tags on it.
I thought this little shelf was so sweet. Very old, and all it needs is some hinges to make it functional. I'm not going to do a thing to the finish b/c it's perfect...perfectly imperfect that is:o)
A Radio Flyer tricycle. The kids were super pumped over this. $12. Now if we can get them to SHARE!
And of course Buzz. E will not put him down. He LOVES him some Buzz:o) Well I hope that you have enjoyed checking out my finds for the weekend. Hopefully you found some treasures of your own. I would love to hear about them, or shoot me an email with some pics. I love hearing from you guys! Have a great day!!
